Huawei has made China's second crop of new Snapdragon 778G-powered phones to launch today official. However, unlike the iQOO Z5, the Nova 9 and 9 Pro lack 5G connectivity. They might start to make up for this with the 100W charging technology in the Pro, rated to fill its 4,000mAh battery in as little as 20 minutes.

The Nova 9, on the other hand, has 66W charging for its 4,300mAh power-pack. It sustains a 6.57-inch display, whereas that of the Pro is 6.72 inches. Both panels are FHD+ and AMOLED, although only the more premium variant has a 120Hz refresh rate.

Both new Novas have a 50MP main sensor, along with an 8MP 100° ultrawide-angle camera and dual 2MP sensors, found in an oddly familiar rear-panel housing. In fact, the only other main difference between the Nova 9 and 9 Pro is that the former has a single punch-hole selfie camera, whereas the latter has dual front-facing shooters, all of which are 32MP.

Huawei has chosen to price these new offerings starting at 2,699 yuan (US$418) for an 8GB Nova 9 SKU with 128GB of internal storage, whereas one with double this storage goes for 2,999 yuan ($464). Furthermore, the 8/128GB Nova 9 Pro is now 3,499 yuan ($542), whereas its only other 8/256GB option is 3,899 yuan ($604). It will now be interesting to see how well Huawei does with its latest HarmonyOS 2.0 devices.
