At the dispatch of the Darkplates, Dbrand was so sure that it would not confront lawful activity from Sony that it prodded the organization into bringing lawful activity at any rate. Specifically, Dbrand incorporated the message 'Go on, sue us' on its Darkplates item listing, which are 1:1 replicas of the PS5's stock side plates. Sony does not sell substitution PS5 side plates, despite showcasing that it is so simple to eliminate them.
While Dbrand has been selling Darkplates for a month or somewhere in the vicinity, incidentally, Sony was too disturbed with regards to it doing as such. Composing on Reddit, Dbrand clarified that it got a cease and desist (C&S) letter from lawyers representing Sony, which raised three requirements to keep Sony from initiating legitimate activity.
- Quickly and forever cease and bring down all advertising and advancement for and cease all sales worldwide of faceplates highlighting the item design of SIE's PSS faceplates or any similar item setup, including without impediment all faceplates presently for sale at dbrand com;
- Immediately and for all time cease and bring down all showcasing and advancement for and cease all sales worldwide of products or bundling bearing the PlayStation Family Imprint, the Changed Shape Imprint Design, some other PlayStation Imprint, or some other indicia of SIE; and
- Immediately and forever cease and bring down all use worldwide of the PlayStation Marks, any similar marks, and some other marks, marking or indicia associated with SIE or its affiliates, including without impediment inside item names.

Sony has not openly remarked on the matter, however Dbrand has effectively started selling Darkplates 2.0. The revised side plates support lightstrips as well, adding a component of shading to the PS5.
